A Simple Trick to Help Me Do Stuff I Don’t Wanna Do

Bin the cons

I have a 15,000-word Master’s dissertation in Language Education to write.

So far I’ve written nothing — 0 words.

Not because I’m lazy. Not because I don’t have time. But because I’m demotivated to do it.

Getting this Master’s won’t help me advance my career in any considerable way. I must get it though. I invested money and time on it so it’d be a shame not to finish it.

How can I get myself excited about it?

Everything in life has pros and cons, so I sat down and listed all the positive and negative points of writing this dissertation.

Then I ripped the sheet in two and threw away the half with the cons. My eyes can only see the pros now.

The cons are in the bin.

The pros are pinned to my computer screen.

I’m excited!

If you feel demotivated about doing something, try binning cons.
